Patrons of this year’s Music of Ghanaian Origin (MOGO) concert have described it as one of the best they have enjoyed so far.
This year’s MOGO featured the ‘native son’ of Ghanaian music, Amandzeba, Adane Best, traditional Ga ensemble, Dromo Naa and master keyboardist Isaac Aryee who got the audience electrified throughout the show.
In the middle of the solid production from the events department of CITI FM and the awesome performances from the musicians was the master driver – the host.
Citi FM’s Kojo Akojo Boateng is not new to hosting live events but he was exceptional at the 2018 MOGO; breathed life into the show and kept it in motion.
He exhibited true qualities of a good host with captivating introduction where he did his own rendition of some great highlife songs.
One of Kojo’s fortes in emceeing programmes is his unbridled sense of humour and the spontaneity with which it comes. He was able to sustain the audience’s interest by making them part of the programme.
When asked why he chose a totally different style of hosting programmes, he replied that he realized most of the celebrated MCs do almost the same things and the only way to stand out is to be himself and be unique.
“My style is different. I engage and interact with the audience so they feel part of the show. I love to be myself, have fun but most importantly stick to the object of the programme,” he said.
Unlike most events hosts, Kojo does ample research about every programme he emcees and makes sure he doesn’t just talk but makes statements that are relevant to the prgramme.
MOGO 2018 was opened by Ga ensemble Dromo Naa who handed the baton to Adane Best.
There was also a special tribute to the late Paapa Yankson and CK Mann who had performed at previous editions of the programme. Documentaries were shown in their honour after which the son of Paapa Yankson, Silas Yankson did renditions of songs by his father.
For those who were thrilled by his performance at Kaleidoscope earlier this month, music genius Isaac Aryee tripled the energy at the programme. At the stroke of his fingers across the black and white keys, every head nodded, fingers snapped, toes tapped and bodies moved.
He performed music from top artistes across genres, working up the audience song after song.
Ghanaian highlife legend, Amandzeba was also in his usual element when he mounted the stage to perform. He got the whole audience dancing so much that they did not even want him to stop his performance.
Apart from Citi FM’s programmes like MOGO, Business Olympics, Family Day Out, Roundtables and the rest, Kojo Akoto Boateng has also handled high profile shows in Ghana.
Kojo has hosted Guinness Africa Hero Awards, MTN Apps Challenge, MTN Business World Executive Breakfast, World Bank 60h Anniversary and Fidelity Bank Corporate Games.
Others are Miss Tourism Ghana, Ghana Entrepreneurs Awards, Unilever End of Year party CIMG, Total Ghana Startupper among others.
Kojo Akoto Boateng, a regular voice on the Citi Breakfast Show on Citi 97.3 FM, started his broadcasting career at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology’s campus-based station Focus FM (with the moniker DJ X-Ray) where he hosted the late afternoon show and other entertainment shows.
From Focus FM, he joined Kapital Radio to, again, host the late afternoon drive, but he was later pushed to the morning show.
In 2011, he left Kapital Radio for Ultimate FM which had then started operation.
Since Kojo joined Citi FM in 2013 he has been phenomenal as a broadcaster and a master of ceremonies.
