10 University students have been arrested by the Akim Oda Police for allegedly writing exams for some candidates of the PLACID International School in the Birim Central Municipality in the Eastern Region in the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The ten, comprising five women and five men, were spotted by an examiner at the centre who suspected that they were not students of the school.

According to the Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, all 13 students have been charged with impersonation and are being processed for court.
“The university students are ten. They came from the universities across the length and breadth of the country, the most prominent ones. We have UCC, Legon, University of Science and Technology and the University of Professional Studies. Three other students who came from Star International School were also arrested. So in all, we have 13 students, ten of them university students and three others.”
He explained that the 13 were “arrested writing exams for PLACID International School candidates at Oda” and were handed over to the police.
“So as we speak now, all the 13 students are in our custody. We are processing them for court for a charge of impersonation so that the court will deal with them,” ASP Tetteh added.
WAEC tightens security to prevent WASSCE exam malpractices
The West African Examination Council (WAEC), before the start of the exams, said it had tightened up security measures in all centres to ensure an incident-free examination across the country.
Mrs. Agnes Teye-Cudjoe, Head of Public Affairs, WAEC, who for security reasons did not give out details, explained that the security measures were enough to protect the integrity and sanctity of the examinations.
She, therefore, urged candidates to obey instructions, desist from seeking help from people and abstain from importing foreign materials into the examination halls.
