The Women’s ministry of the Christian Council of Ghana (CCG), held its first Community capacity building and volunteering initiative in Central Tongu District of the Volta Region with a call for the protection of the girl child to prepare them adequately for the future.
The delegation from the group, led by its National President, Mrs. H. Mawufemor Kley-Bruce, spent a better part of the day [Friday] interacting with women and children in Kpogede.
The team schooled the town folks on the importance of educating female children, ensuring good health of the family and managing their homes according to the teachings of Jesus Christ.
Mrs. Kley-Bruce said it was critical to empower women and children to liberate the family from poverty.
The free medical screening was conducted in the community where the volunteer health workers educated the beneficiaries on healthy living, family planning and sexually transmitted diseases.
Donations of toiletries, cooking oil, rice, toothbrush, shoes, cloth among other items were made to the residents.
Mrs. Kley-Bruce disclosed at the ceremony that, their decision to support Kpogede was a prophecy revealed to them by God.
Kpogede is an underserved community in the Central Tongu district which lacks some essential social amenities.
The Assembly member for the area, Kenneth Komla Logo, in an interview with Citi News said the community lacks social amenities such as public toilets, household electricity meters, an information centre for local announcements and a Community Centre.
Kenneth Komla, who also lamented how the residents who are peasant farmers, struggle to access health as a result of not being able to renew or register for the NHIS, used the opportunity to appeal to the general public and other corporate bodies to come to their aid.
The Assembly Member also expressed gratitude to the CCG women’s group for the gesture.
The Women Ministry of Christian Council of Ghana currently has branches in the Volta, Ashanti and Greater Accra regions, with a common goal of spreading Christianity and building capacities of underprivileged communities to empower them economically and spiritually.
