The African University College of Communications (AUCC), is hopeful that the renewal of its partnership with the University of West Indies will keep it on course to attaining Charter by 2020.
The school continued its three-year relationship with the University of West Indies – Arthur Lok School of Business by extending its MOU.
The University of West Indies was represented by David Dulal-Whiteway, the CEO of the Arthur Lok School of Business school.
Leading AUCC was the school’s acting president, Dr. C.Y. Akwaa-Mensah, who expressed hope that this continued affiliation will provide the needed upgrades ahead of the charter bid in 2020.
“Now we are going to have an exchange programme with their faculty and we think that our faculty has a lot to learn from them. So once we are able to build up the capacity of our faculty, it will also speed up the process towards chartering.”
“Our staff is learning from them and their 25-year experience as a business school. For the materials that they bring to us, we will also be able to adapt it to our environment and these are some of the things we have gained from this partnership,” he said to citinewsroom.com.
In the event the 2020 charter bid is not realized, Dr. Akwaa-Mensah said the school “will learn from what the problem is and what the obstacles are and then improve upon it. We are not going to consider it a failure.”
Presently, there are 68 accredited tertiary institutions in the country operating as public and private universities.
Only 14 of this number are chartered degree-awarding universities which by law have the power to confer degrees.
Valley View University, Trinity Theological College, and Akrofi-Christaller Memorial Research Institute are the only chartered private tertiary institutions eligible to award degrees.
The core goal of this MOU is to make the AUCC business school an accredited multi-modal learning centre of the University of West Indies, thus meeting the accreditation standards of the Association of Master Business Administration.
