The Akuse Police have arrested a Police officer with the station Corporal Gasty Seidu Yahaya for his involvement in a robbery at Okwenya fuel station in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region.
Corporal Seidu Yahaya, together with Seth Kponyo Dodzi, a security man at another fuel station and one other yet-to-be-identified suspect, last month attacked and robbed security guards on duty at Okwenya filing station, inflicted severe machete wounds on them which led to them being hospitalized for several weeks.
Confirming the arrest to Citi News the Akuse Police District Commander Superintendent Asare Nyarko said their readiness to combat crime led to the arrest of the suspects which includes a man who works directly under him.
“We have arrested two suspects in connection with a robbery which took place last month March 26th at Okwenya fuel station where two security guards on duty were attacked, and machete wounds were inflicted on them.”
According to him, the robbers had already fled by the time the police arrived at the scene.
“They tied and locked the guards in a room after butchering one with a machete. There was blood all over the place, so we quickly rushed them to the Akuse government hospital where one of them was treated and discharged, but it took some weeks for the other who was severely injured to be discharged”.
Superintendent Asare Nyarko added “I must say we have not rested on the incident ever since it occurred, after series of investigations it became known to us that one of my men who work directly under me was involved, Corporal Gasty Seidu Yahaya together with two others in town masterminded that robbery so we proceeded to arrest them and they are currently at the Regional headquarters in Koforidua. ”
He said the suspects would be arraigned after further investigations.
