Arrest District Health Director over New Senchi deaths – Group

The Graduate Physician Associates of Ghana, has called for the arrest of the  Asuogyaman District Health Director, Aziz Abdullai Abdul, over the death of four patients believed to have died at the New Senchi Health Centre from contaminated injection.

Their call comes barely few hours after the Ghana Physician Assistants Association, their mother group, declared a nationwide sit-down strike to protest the detention of their colleague who has been detained for nearly two weeks as a result of the death.

But the Association believes Aziz Abdullai Abdul covered-up some issues regarding the deaths at the New Senchi Health Centre, only to blame it on the Physician Assistant, Simon Takrema.

[contextly_sidebar id=”zTDC3s6DDgIAdE21ujTqgVMVxqDbzrGy”]Mr. Takrema has been in prison custody for two weeks following the death of the four persons.

According to them, their colleague, who was posted to the facility only about six months ago, complained to the District Health Director about the activities of the disease control officer, but nothing was done about him.

The Ghana Health Service identified the Disease Control Officer, James Yeboah, as the one who administered the contaminated injections to the patients, leading to their death.

The acting President of the Graduate Physician Associates of Ghana, Anthony Asare Arkoh, insisted that “people have been planted there and because of the benefits they have been getting from the illegal practices of the disease control officer, that is why they kept him there, so he [The suspect] didn’t have oversight responsibility.”

He thus maintained that “the District Health Director must be arrested and must be sacked, and that is what we demand too; so is not just [about] the release of our colleague.”

Beyond pushing for the arrest of the District Health Director, Mr. Arkoh also said they would fight for some compensation for their colleague.

“As you can see, it is very traumatic. Even after his release, we will push for compensation from the Ghana Health Service. Now, they are beginning to realize that they intentionally sacrificed our colleague so that they cover up for the ineptitude and apathetic administration of the District Health Director.”
