TANGABISI, the association of past students of the Bolgatanga Senior High School (BIG BOSS) in the Upper East Region, have donated cash and other academic valuables worth about GH₵26,000 to the school.
The donation is to be used to prepare the students towards this year’s National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) in June.
It included a cash amount of GH₵16,000, assorted stationery, seven Samsung tablet devices as well as Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology text books.
The Upper East Regional branch of the association made the presentation to the school authorities on April 12.
The seven additional Samsung tablet devices will increase the total number of devices in the mobile ICT laboratory to 25. This expands the capacity of the school’s existing Mobile ICT Laboratory and related educational resources for the benefit of the broader student population.
The Upper East Regional Chairman of Tangabisi, Mr Peter Laary, used the opportunity to commend the quiz team, comprising teachers and students, for successfully reaching the one-eighth stage of the competition last year.
Mr Laary said the association was ready to pool resources together to support the school to thrive academically.
He thus expressed the hope that the donation will motivate the students and their teachers to work hard and win the trophy come June.
He also thanked members of the association for responding positively to a fundraising exercise launched in March, saying their contributions made it possible for the group to make the donations.
The Headmaster of BIG BOSS, Mr Afelibiek Ababu, who received the donation on behalf of the school, thanked the association for the effort.
He promised to ensure that the items are put to the right use to help achieve the intended purpose.
“I want to assure you that as supervisors, we will do our best to ensure that the results that we are all yearning for will be gotten,” he said.
Mr Ababu further advised members of Tangabisi to work closely with the school authorities to help maintain the image of BIG BOSS.
The present-day BIG BOSS, a mixed school, located in Winkogo in the Upper East Region, started in 1970 as Zuarungu Secondary School.
Its name was later changed to the current one in 1975 to, among other things give the school a regional focus.
It has since become pivotal in the development of human resource for the nation and world at large.
In spite of being a force to reckon with in academics and sports, BIG BOSS is yet to win the NSMQ, which has since 1994 become a source of academic rivalry among senior high schools.
It is therefore hoped that the donation will boost the morale of the students and their teachers to help win the competition.
It is also hoped that the gesture will further inspire past students scattered across the world to forge together through Tangabisi to help fraternize and pool resources for the benefit of the school.
