Thomas Adu Appiah, popularly known as ‘Toma’ has been elected as the Brong Ahafo Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) at its Regional conference held on Sunday.
He polled a total of 282 valid votes to beat his closest contender Mr. Francis Sarfo Opoku, who obtained 266 votes in a very keenly contested three-man race.
The third contender, Dr. Charles Addo, managed only 10 votes.
Until his victory, Mr. Thomas Adu Appiah was the 1st Vice Chairman and acting Regional Chairman after Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh was appointed the Regional Minister, whiles his closest contender whom many tipped to have won, is a businessman and financier of the party in the region.
Outspoken and controversial Regional Youth Organizer, Kwame Baffoe, beat competition from four other contenders to win the 1st Vice Chairmanship slot with 407 votes.
The Regional Organizer remains Konlaabig Rasheed, as he contested unopposed.
The position of Regional Secretary went to Kofi Ofosu Boateng who polled 297 to beat David Boakye and John Nketsiah who also obtained 179 votes and 82 votes respectively.
Other winners include 2nd Vice Chairman Mensah Joseph, Asare Baffour Deputy Secretary, Alhaji Issaka Issa Treasurer, Mrs. Dorothy Ama Amponsah Women’s Organizer, Michael Osei Boateng Youth Organizer, and Alhaji Adam Mohammed, Nasara Coordinator.
Prior to the elections, Deputy General Secretary of the party, Nana Obiri Yeboah, called an all to support the government to implement good policies and programmes for the benefit of Ghanaians.
In his victory speech, Mr. Thomas Adu Appiah said the successful conference is a demonstration of the NPP’s belief in democracy, and appealed to all to partner the new executives to strategize to capture power in 2020.
He pledged to ensure unity within the party for the task ahead in 2020.
