The Car Rental Association held a consultative meeting with the Ghana Tourism Authority and various stakeholders on Thursday at the Coconut Grove Regency Hotel in Accra.
The meeting was to among others discuss strategies that can be adopted to make car rental companies more effective and attractive.
Guest Speaker for the event. Ekow Sampson who is also the acting Deputy Executive Director of Operations at the Ghana Tourism Authority said the meeting was also aimed at discussing and tackling challenges facing car rental companies in Ghana.
“Car Rental business is the eye of the tourism industry. It is a very key aspect and we have to see to it that they develop. First and foremost when the tourists come, they take them to the tourists’ site and they also market their services. They have challenges and some of the challenges have to do with training and capacity building. There is therefore the need for us to engage these car rental companies and dialogue with them to see how best we can do that, “ he said.
The programme saw various stakeholders, particularly Chief Executive Officers from various car rental companies dialogue on effective ways of generally improving the tourism industry.
Mr. Sampson also indicated that the programme seeks to create awareness on tourism levy and the crucial role expected to be played by car rental companies in the collection of same.
The President of the Car Rental Association of Ghana, Mr Seth Yeboah Ocran, used the occasion to welcome all the various CEO’S and said, one of the objects of which CRAG was formed twenty years ago was to promote sound business practice within the Car Rentals industry in Ghana; and to provide members with information, Data and statistics relating to the industry and it’s associate or affiliate industry.
We believe that such collaboration and engagement with Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) will go a long way in addressing some challenges member Companies face, and also help mutually promote tourism in the Country, we the Car Rental Association of Ghana DRIVE TOURISM.
Mr. Ocran said, the Car Rental Association will engage other stakeholders to help address some concern in the tourism industry through stakeholders engagement
