The red carpet of 2018 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards will come alive as AJ Sarpong brings her finesse and charm to bear as host.
AJ, a broadcast journalist at Citi FM and Citi TV, will be hosting this year’s red carpet with TV3 and 3FM’s Johnnie Hughes, another experienced events host who has earned great spurs in his turf.
As has been the norm, the VGMA Red Carpet will basically focus on what the celebrities wear to the event, who their stylists are and what their expectations are for the music awards.
The 19th edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards will be held on 14th April, 2018 at the Accra International Conference Centre.
The main hosts for the night are actor John Dumelo and GHOne TV host, Berla Mundi.
About AJ Sarpong
AJ has emerged as one of the most talented and versatile media personalities in Ghana.
She began her career working at Ghanamusic.com where she took on the responsibilities of associate editor and on-air presenter for the websites events coverage.
Her tasks included producing, directing and hosting ‘Top 20 Countdown’, an urban weekly Ghanaian music video countdown program from 2009 till 2013.
Whilst at Ghana music.com, she also worked at YFM Ghana from 2010 to 2014 as a Friday night segment presenter, amongst a myriad of part time industry based jobs.
AJ has over the period of her career had the rare opportunity of scoring exclusive interviews with many stars from across the Globe such as award winning rapper and actor Ludacris, American music star Lloyd, British rap sensations Sway and Donae, ,Dancehall Artiste Sean Paul, American Rapper Eve, Mario and Wycleaf Jean, South African music Group Jozi, a host of Nigerian Sensations including D’banj, Wande Coal, 2face Idibia, Neato-C,Praiz, Runtown, Wizkid, MI Abaga, Ice Prince Zamani, Too Fan,etc. just to mention a few. As well as most of the Ghanaian stars at many events and periods across the years.
After the merge of GHOne TV into the EIB Networks in 2015, AJ continued to work in lifestyle and entertainment, hosting a daily entertainment segment on TV each weekday morning on GH One TV’s morning show till Jan 2017 and hosting its equivalent on radio each weekday morning after TV on Starr FM’s Mid-Morning show, The Zone with Naa Ashorkor.
She was also the Host of award winning Girl talk show “Tales from the Powder Room” show on GHOne on Wednesday nights, a hard hitting and award winning Girl Talk show which focused on discussing social topics that Women deal with in their everyday Lives and also hosted GHOne’s hourly telenovela show Revenge Live Chat Show thrice a week.
On the radio front, she was the Queen of Friday nights with her evening show, Live from the Capital, where she had serious unconventional conversations with some of the Africa’s hottest stars. She was the sit in host of ‘The Zone’ and ‘Drop Off’ on Starr 103.5 FM, and sit in for ‘Lifestyle Cafe,’ ‘Touchdown Live,’ and ‘Route 91.9’ on Live 91.9 FM.
AJ has been a Content producer since 2014 and in her role as Content producer for the then independent GHOne TV, she was required her to build bespoke TV shows and content for the channel’s growing and demanding viewership with her key role being to ensure that each show would resonate with the African viewer while meeting GHOne’s international standards. She has produced shows such as, Tales from the Powder Room, Friday Night Live, as well as assist in the production of Reality Shows such as ‘It Takes Two,’ Miss Maliaka Beauty Pageant, and Guess who’s coming for Dinner cooking reality show amongst others. And also for Radio she produced 2 seasons of the highly successful, female empowerment Radio Program and event, The Starr Woman Project for Starr 103.5 FM.
In addition to her many engagements, she also writers occasionally, the popular quarterly Column “Gisting with AJ” in the glamorous Glitz Africa Magazine, where she vocalized her thoughts on events and about the Ghanaian entertainment industry, its scandals and happenings.
AJ Sarpong’s versatility, wit and infectious positive attitude towards life, allows her the power to touch her audience on an emotional level and pull them in even when on stage. As someone whose experience covers, TV, print media etc., AJ has earned quite a presence on the Ghana media scene and has become one of Ghana’s most sort after Events MC and has gone on to MC the stages of many events in Ghana. She was the Red carpet host of the first- ever Glitz Style Awards which has become the most sort after Style Awards in the country.
She also hosted Ghana’s most prestigious honors, the Ghana Music Honors 2017, the maiden Ghana Events Awards 2017, CITI FM’s December 2 Remember 2017, the first ever launch and Grand Finale of Miss Communicator 2017, amongst others for 2017.
She has also hosted musician Sarkodie’s Rapperholic press launch and Miss Maliaka 2016’s Ladies First Girl empowerment and music night with musical performances from songstresses Adina, Feli Nuna and many others, as well as musician Mzvee’s Tip Toe Concert.
AJ Sarpong has also been the name to call for corporate and government launches with hosting gigs like Nestle Corporate and Family day, DSTV I-Factory Showcase, which debuted various shows including Omotola’s new season of her reality show to the world, IPMC 25th Anniversary Events, the Launch of the Bartenders Association of Ghana, The GBT Investor Conference, The Foreign Ministry sod cutting of Foreign Institute, The Safer Internet Day Ghana 2018, First Choice Beauty 20th Anniversary celebration, Citi FM’s Keeping Love Alive Valentine’s Event , amongst many others under her belt.
AJ’s versatility extends to outdoor events as well such as the First ever Cake Fair 2016, SO Aesthetic Makeup Brand Fair and The Makeup Revolution Fairs etc. Her versatility which also extends to the television screen landed her amongst many others the opportunity to host the very 1st Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, Pre-Show, which analyzed the expectations, events preceding the awards, and predictions at the 2017 VGMAs.
She is also an accomplished stage actress with over 5 Stage productions to her credit.
AJ completed a B.A. degree in Political Science and Theatre Arts at the University of Ghana, Legon in 2014 and went further to complete her Masters in Journalism from the Ghana Institute of Journalism in 2016 and has ambitions to bag another Masters and possibly a PHD to crown off her academic career.
