A Koforidua Magistrate Court has remanded into prison custody four of five suspects standing trial for their alleged involvement in the murder of Prince Kwabena Kumi, the aircraft engineer gruesomely murdered during the Easter festive season.

The four, Sampson Anim, the driver of the Hyundai Grace vehicle that transported the deceased when his car was impounded for drink-driving, Ebenezer Asante 32-years, Emmanuel Okyere, 18 years, Samuel Peprah, 27 years, and Frank Konadu, 18 years, were remanded to reappear on May 3, 2018, by the court presided over by his worship Mr Eric Daning.

Police Public Relations Officer for the Eastern Region, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, told Citi News they are making frantic efforts to locate and arrest four suspects they have picked leads on.

Background

The 34-year-old engineer died mysteriously after his car was allegedly seized by the police at Akroso for suspected drunk-driving.

According to the family, the deceased, Prince Kobina Kumi, an aeronautic engineer with the African World Airlines, was found dead between Akroso and Asuboa with bullet wounds after his car was seized by the police.

The family further alleged that the police prevented the deceased from boarding any commercial car after they seized his vehicle for suspected drunk-driving.

The family also called on the Inspector General of Police, David Asante Apeatu, and the Minister for the Interior, Ambrose Dery, to institute a full-scale investigation into the case and ensure justice is served.

The Oda Municipal Police Commander, Superintendent Samuel Ntosoh, also said the police had tried to detain the deceased till he was sober enough to drive home.

But the deceased refused this offer, according to Supt. Ntosoh.

The Inspector General of Police [IGP], David Asante Apeatu, acting upon a petition by the family of the deceased to investigate the matter, has since ordered the Police Professional and Standards Bureau (PIPS), to probe the case.

AWA engineer was shot twice in the chest, jaw

Meanwhile, preliminary investigations by the Eastern Regional Police Command revealed that he was shot twice, in his jaw and his chest.
