The government will launch the Nation Builders Corps programme on May 1, also known as International Workers’ Day, as it takes another step towards the fulfilment of its much-touted agenda for jobs.
This was announced by Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia during his address at the 2nd Session of the 22nd Congregation of the University of Education, Winneba on Saturday.

Observers have noted Ghana had one of the fastest growing economies over the last year and this growth is expected to continue in 2018.
But Dr. Bawumia stressed that “this growth has to translate to jobs.”
“This year, by the grace of God, we will be recruiting 100,000 graduates into this… the minimum number of graduates per constituency under this programme that will be hired is 300 and it will go up to 450 depending on the size of that particular constituency or district,” he said.
The Nations Builders Corps was announced as a government initiative in the 2018 budget to provide 100,000 jobs to graduates at a cost of GHc 600 million.
The focus of the initiative is to improve public service delivery in health, education, agriculture, sanitation and also drive revenue mobilization and collection.
462 jobs per district
The Nations Builders Corps is expected to provide every one of Ghana’s 216 districts with jobs for 462 graduates, the Minister said.
The programme, which will be managed by the office of the President, will focus on alleviating shortfalls in public service delivery.
NBC has a number of subsets which are connected to other major government targets and initiatives.
It will have a “Clean Ghana” Programme for sanitation, a “Heal Ghana” module for health, “Revenue Ghana” programme for tax collection, a “Teach Ghana” module for education and a “Feed Ghana” module for agriculture.
The NBC is also envisioned to alleviate Ghana’s graduate unemployment problems.
Remuneration
In December 2017, the Employment and Labour Relations Minister, Ignatius Baffour Awuah, revealed that workers of the Nation Builders Corps will receive a minimum monthly salary of GH¢600.
The minimum amount is slightly above the allowances of National Service Personnel who earn GH¢559 monthly.
