The government is hopeful of meeting its target of reducing the time frame for land registration to a maximum of thirty days within the next two years.
The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia believes this should also help address current challenges in the financial sector and by the GRA concerning mortgages and tax collection respectively.
Currently, the Lands Commission is converting all manual land documents unto digital platform to expedite the registration process.
Speaking at an event on land administration reforms, the Vice President said the necessary investments should also reverse all delays confronting land acquisition in Ghana.
“Government is concentrating its effort in two core areas actually captured as a true thematic area. First is the digitization of land records, automation of business processes and decentralization of the lands commission. Second is the infrastructure for spatial data and spatial data management.
“Government is embarking on a massive digitization drive because this is a cardinal prerequisite to modernizing the economy and turning around the fortunes of the country. Digitizing the land registry remains a priority of government,” said the Vice President.
Bawumia renews call for land re-digitization
In March 208, the Vice President reiterated the need for automation of land registration in the country.
He, therefore, urged the Lands Commission to hasten the process to make land title registration
The Vice President also called on the private sector to partner government to make the ongoing efforts at automation a reality.
