Former President John Dramani Mahama has hinted that he will announce his intentions for his political future very soon.
According to him, he has had the opportunity to listen to the rank and file of the NDC and has come to an understanding of which decision will be in the best interest of the opposition party.
[contextly_sidebar id=”QINb6XzlOKTNTioN8kWo2thHpusCdh7D”]His comments come at a time when several other party stalwarts have declared their intentions to run for the NDC flagbearership.
Speaking at the NDC Unity Walk in Bolga, Mr Mahama said the questions about his next political move will be answered in due time.
“We have had the opportunity to interact with the grassroots and I have heard the message they have kept echoing to me. I have had the opportunity to speak to many people who have the best interests of our party at heart and sooner rather than later I will make my political future clear.
“I did not want my decision whether to run or not to run to affect the reorganization of the party. Now that we have finished the branch reorganization and I can see that the reorganization of the party is well on track then probably the time is arriving where I need to make a decision so the party can have a clear focus on how it is moving forward to 2020.”
NDC Flagbearership
About four NDC stalwarts have already declared their readiness to lead the party in the 2020 polls.
They are the 2nd deputy Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin; former CEO of the National Health Insurance Authority, Sylvester Mensah; former La-Dadekotopon MP, Nii Amasah Namoale and former Vice Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Professor Joshua Alabi.
The former President had explained earlier that his decision not to declare whether he will contest the polls or not was due to his focus on contributing towards the party’s restructuring and healing process to make the NDC a stronger force in the elections.
