Some unemployed youth in the Upper East region have networking and skills acquisition training from a Social Enterprise  (ThinkGhana) through its job camp program.

The event which was held at the Bolgatanga Catholic social centre brought together over 30 youth, particularly unemployed graduates.

The resource persons included Roger Laari, CEO of MOAB Properties, Akannah Saeed, an architect and a lecturer at Bolgatanga Polytechnic, Michael Lamptey of the NBSSI and CEO of Yabco, Baba Yabdow.

Participants were taken through application and Curriculum Vitae writing, searching for job opportunities through networking and voluntary skills acquisition in preparedness for jobs.

They were also urged to practice personal income savings through financial discipline of which could be used as startup capital for small businesses.

Participants were also urged to have a change of altitude and a high sense of discipline towards their business ideas, the source of funding and the final operations of their businesses.

The Executive Director of GhanaThink Foundation, Ato Ulzen-Appiah said it was a nationwide event that sought to brainstorm and proffer solutions to the alarming problem of youth unemployment in the country.

“The event is being organised in all ten regional capitals with the objective of providing a platform for graduate youth to discuss jobs and networking opportunities.”

Ato Ulzen- Appiah anticipated that “A final report on the overall outcome of the event after the nationwide tour would enable Ghana Think Foundation, Citi FM and STAR-Ghana hold dialogue sessions with the government so that the concerns raised by the youth can be addressed.”

He explained that job camp aims at partnering amongst the youth, industry, and academia in creating enterprises, access to employment and personal development opportunities.

“We believe that the job camp initiative will create a better understanding of what kind of jobs are required and should be created in each location of Ghana.”
