Some students of Accra Technical University (ATU), including final year students who made late payment of fees have been asked to defer for a year.
According to them, the decision will affect them.

Speaking to Citi News, some of the students, asked authorities of the school to review their decision and allow them to write the exams.
“I am a level 300 student in my second semester, we have pleaded with them, and we went to their offices. I am not ready to defer after three years in the Polytechnic, and just two weeks, three weeks to complete school you ask me to go back a year after and come back. It’s a whole lot,” one student said.
“I thought when you register for the first time that will be all until the second semester, I know I am at fault though, I plead with them not let us defer, they should have mercy on us,” another student said.
Meanwhile the Public Relations Officer for the university, Fausta Ganaa said they had given the students enough time to make payment.
“I will say that they do not have reasons to complain at all, because last week Friday we gave them the last alternative, there is duration, so within that duration, if you don’t register, the platform will automatically close, we have given them several deadlines, which I think we are not making mockery of our own rules and regulations and we cannot go that way,” she said.
In May 2017, some students of Accra Technical University, including final year students, protested against a decision by the institution to disallow them entry into the examination hall over the late payment of fees.
The students were given deadlines of April 7 to May 25, with a GhC50 penalty, but the students could not make the payment because the said day was a holiday, and banks were closed.
