The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) wants the government to stop interfering in the activities of civil servants.
According to them, most of the Ministries, particularly the Finance Ministry has duplicated some of the positions of civil servants.

“Now we have directors at the finance ministry reporting to special assistants within the ministry. They have taken the roles and duty of a civil servant. They assume powers and are now controlling civil servant and our directors in the civil servant,” he said.
In April the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) raised concerns over government’s interference in the structure of the Civil Service.
Some of the concerned raised included breaches of employee privacy, audit-related infractions and the culture of recruiting special assistants, among others.
The Association gave the government a two-week ultimatum to recall all civil servants compelled to proceed on leave in favour of hired special assistants.
CLOGSAG accused the Ministry of Finance and its Minister, Ken Ofori Atta as one of the key players responsible for recruiting outsiders.
“There are situations where some ministers have assumed administrative responsibilities and signed letters to civil servants for them to proceed on leave. Where some of these civil servants were deemed lucky, they were side-lined by special assistants of these ministers to encumber their positions.”
