GTDC visits tourist sites in Volta, Eastern regions

As part of the Ghana Tourism Development Agency project to encourage tourist visits , the board and some staff of the company have inspected a secured land site in the Volta Region.

Members of the Board, the Chief Executive Officer and some staff of the Ghana Tourism Development Company (GTDC) ended the three-day visit to parts of the Volta and Eastern Region of Ghana inspecting proposed land areas and accessing investment viability of some assets of the company.

The team, which was led by the Board Chairman, Mr. Martin Mireku and members of the Board including Madam Olivia Opoku-Adoma, Mrs. Comfort Boohene-Osafo and Mrs. Jackie Akuffo, the CEO of the company, Mr Kwadwo Odame Antwi and some staff inspected lands and tourist sites lands earmarked for tourism developments in the country last week.

In the Volta Region, the team inspected acquired lands for one of the key projects of the company, the GH Akwaaba Hotels. These are budget hotels which will be built around tourist areas in carefully selected areas to give tourists hotels to sleep over to avoid traveling long miles between tourist sites during visits.

The management and staff of the company also visited the Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary, a natural habitat for about 1200 Mona monkeys. The group spoke to managers of the facility to see challenges facing the tourist site and other ways to develop the site into a standard tourist site for visits.

Speaking at a gathering of the managers and some leaders of the Tafi Atome community, the CEO of the Ghana Tourism Development Company, Mr Odame Antwi expressed his appreciation to the people of Tafi Atome for their support in tourism development.

“As custodians of lands, we are happy about your willingness to see the community develop, it is our shared duty to also add value by way of decent accommodation to what we have to create jobs and better livelihood for our people through the building of these facilities” he added.

Francis Acquaye, Manager at the Monkey Sanctuary, thanked the management and expressed the hope of the agency’s support to the facility.

The Board Chairman of the company, Mr Martin Mireku thanked the leaders of Tafi Atome for given government part of as equity to private investors for development.

The management continued their visit in the Eastern Region by visiting the Bunso Arboretum and Aprokumase Big Tree at Oda to see the state of these facilities and opportunities to develop the sites.

The Ghana Tourism Development Company is the investment wing of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture responsible for tourism infrastructural development in Ghana.
