Civil Society Group, Progressive Nationalists Forum (PNF) has accused Policy Think Tank IMANI Africa of fronting for the telecommunication companies with its opposition to the Kelni GVG deal.

According to the convener of the group, Richard Nyamah, the common platform operated by Kelni GVG will help government maximize revenue collection in the telco industry, a situation he believes the telcos do not want since it would work against their interests.

[contextly_sidebar id=”896QtKXhQo7YGWvh3xqwYo41PDEFHLkn”]He states that IMANI so far has failed to produce proper evidence to prove its claims of the lack of value for money and fraud.

Speaking to Citi News, Richard Nyamaah said IMANI’s agenda is being backed by the telcos to prevent a new regime that would ensure government rakes in the needed revenue from that sector.

“If IMANI is not being used as a front for them, why is it that, their big Directors and PR and all the people who are being paid fat salaries are not talking? Are you telling me MTN cannot voice their objections to this matter? If they have any objection they know where to go to,” he said.

The President of  IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has demanded that the government rescind the $89 million contract between Ghana and a Haitian firm, GVG/Kelni.

IMANI petitioned the Vice President to revoke the contract for the design, development and implementation of a common platform for traffic monitoring, revenue assurance and mobile money monitoring.

But the Deputy Communications Minister asked Franklin Cudjoe to admit that his Think Tank blundered in its scathing assessment of the contract with KelniGVG.

There has been a back and forth between IMANI Africa and the Communications Ministry over the deal which the former beliefs mirror the State’s controversial agreements with Subah Infosolutions and Afriwave Telcom Ltd in 2010 and 2016 respectively.
