A Circuit Court at Goaso in the Brong Ahafo Region has sentenced a 29-year-old, Isaac Kano, to two years in prison for stealing local gin, otherwise known as Akpeteshie, valued at Ghc700.
He was convicted on his own guilty plea.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Abochi, told the court presided over by Matthew Kyeremanten, that both the accused and the complainant, Paul Kano, reside at Goaso.
He said the convict is a former employee of the complainant, but resigned on health grounds.
He said on April 17, 2018, the convict went to the complainant’s distillation yard near River Goa at Goaso Manhyia, and stole seven “Kufour gallons” of Akpeteshie valued at Ghc700, and loaded them on a tricycle.
He added that the convict, while in the process, saw a 14-year-old girl and promised to give her Ghc40 if she did not report the matter to the owner.
However, the girl informed her mother about the incident, who in turn reported the matter, leading to his arrest.
