A total number of 571 Community Protection personnel, as part of a collaboration between Youth Employment Agency (YEA) and the Ghana Police Service, have been recruited to assist the police in ensuring law and order in communities.

The personnel, drawn from five regions in the country, observed their passing-out ceremony in Ho on Friday after 16 days of intensive training in crime fighting and investigations.

329 were from the Greater Accra Region, 100 from the Central Region, 82 from Volta Region, 59 from the Eastern Region and 1 from Brong Ahafo Region.

The ceremony, held under the auspices of the Volta Regional Police Training School and the Regional Minister Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, came with a call on the newly-trained personnel to help improve the visibility of the Ghana Police Service in their communities.

Addressing the parade, the Volta Regional YEA Boss, King David commended the recruits for their self-discipline during their training.

He charged them to support the Ghana Police Service in curbing unlawful activities wherever they are posted and advised them not to work in the interest of self-seeking individuals or politicians.

DCOP Francis Ebenezer Doku, the Regional Police Commander noted an increase in crime-related offenses, adding that there was a need to nip these incidents in the bud.

He said the Police Service is willing and ready to tackle crime head-on and implored the commitment of the YEA-recruited personnel in achieving the common goals.

The Volta Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Letsa said the mandate of the YEA is to help the youth acquire practical skills and provide lifetime employment opportunities.

He advised that the youth take advantage of the YEA and other interventions by government to solve the unemployment situation in the country.
