Police officer cries in court over remand

A police officer and a security guard facing prosecution for their alleged involvement in a robbery case in the Eastern Region, Corporal Seidu Gasty Yahaya and Kponyo Seth Dodzi broke down in tears after a Koforidua circuit court hearing the case remanded them into prison custody.

This is the third time the two have been remanded.

Corporal Seidu Gasty Yahaya and Kponyo Seth Dodzi are standing trial for their alleged involvement in the robbery at the Shell filling station at Okwenya in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality.

[contextly_sidebar id=”8rNdBEvXEa2FLSNTEF7NegimGWUArMki”]Corporal Yahaya Seidu who is a police officer with the Akuse Police Division and Kponyo Seth Dodzi a private security officer together with six others who are currently on the run on March 26, attacked two security guards on duty at a Shell filling station at Okwenya near Somanya, assaulted them and made away with GHc37,851.00 after breaking into a safety deposit box in the managers office.

Both suspects pleaded not guilty to two counts of attempting to commit the crime to wit robbery and robbery after the statement of offense was read to them.

The two, however, broke down, shedding uncontrollable tears after the Koforidua circuit court B presided over by Her Honour Mercy Addai-Kotei remanded them to reappear on May 30, 2018, as the police continue with their investigations.

In a related development, a Koforidua circuit court A has also remanded Corporal Seidu Gasty Yahaya into police custody for illicit trafficking of explosives and firearms.

Corporal Seidu Gasty Yahaya stationed at the Akuse Police Division is currently serving on remand at the Koforidua Prisons for his alleged involvement in the robbery.

The prosecutor, Lawyer Cyril Boateng Ketek told the court that the accused, Corporal Seidu Gasty Yahaya in 2015 illegally sold a 9mm gun to one Joel Sackitey Tetteh.

Corporal Seidu Gasty Yahaya who pleaded not guilty to the charge of illicit trafficking of explosives and firearms told the court presided over by her honour Janet Anima Maafo that some senior police officers at the regional Command have connived to disgrace him and bring his name into disrepute.

The court, however, remanded him to reappear on May 24.
