The Police in the Eastern Region is on the hunt for three persons who attacked two police officers on duty at Sambuor police barrier near Mpraeso Adawso in the Kwahu South District.
The three masked assailants emerged from a bush close to the barrier armed with a pump-action shotgun and cutlasses and fired on the officers; Sergeant Kennedy Asah and Corporal Eric Aboagye Dankwah
The AK 47 rifle in possession of the police personnel also malfunctioned preventing the police officers from returning fire.
A subsequent tussle between Sergeant Kennedy Assah and one of the assailants as the officer tried to wrestle the shotgun away.
This led to Sergeant Kennedy sustaining a gunshot wound on his right foot as the gun went off amid the struggle.
The Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh narrated to Citi News that, “the personnel upon sensing danger managed to engage the masked men in a physical brawl in a bid to overpower them and take charge of the pump action.
“Corporal Eric Aboagye Dankwah confronted the two wielding cutlasses while Sergeant Kennedy Assah engaged the pump action wielding assailant in a fierce brawl, but in the process, the pump action fired hitting Sergeant Kennedy Assah on his right foot.”
The masked men managed to escape before a police patrol team got to the scene and three empty AA cartridges and four live cartridges were retrieved from the scene.
The injured sergeant was also rushed to the Atibie government hospital where he was treated and responding to treatment.
“The reasons for the attack on our men is not yet known, but we have begun investigations into the attack, and we will make sure we get hold of the suspects for the law to deal with them, I will use this medium to appeal to the general public to assist the police command with information which will aid us in our investigations to bring the perpetrators to book,” ASP Tetteh said.
