The police have taken over the office of the Ghana Football Association.

A statement from the police said the place is now “a crime scene” and remains inaccessible to the staff and public until further notice.

“Police have started investigations into activities of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and its officers, following the “Number 12” exposé by Tiger Eye PI. As a result, the premises and offices of the GFA have been sealed off and remain inaccessible to the staff of the GFA and the public until further notice,” the statement added.

The statement signed by DSP Shiella Kessie Abayie-Buckman, Director of Police Public Affairs Directorate said they have are offering a 24-hour security at the premises and entreated the public to cooperate with them.

“The Police administration is assuring the public of due processes and encouraging persons with verifiable information to volunteer it to police through the financial forensic unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters at Accra.”

Background

The police are currently investigating the GFA after an exposé by investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas revealed deep-rooted corruption within the association.

Over 60 referees, match commissioners and top officials of the GFA were caught on video allegedly taking bribes to either fix matches or facilitate dubious processes.

Nyantakyi resigns

President of the GFA who was a major culprit was seen allegedly trying to divert part of some local football sponsorship cash to himself.

He was also seen and heard in the video allegedly using the name of the President, Nana Akufo-Addo, Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the Roads Minister and his Deputy, to seal a dubious business deal.

He resigned on Friday.

Nyantakyi had earlier been banned by FIFA for 90-days.

Nyantakyi apologizes

He subsequently apologized and took full responsibility for his actions in the video.
