The Ga Traditional Council has indicated that the ban on noise making and drumming has been lifted.
According to the spokesperson for the Ga Traditional Council, Nuumo Blafo, all the processes leading to the lifting of the ban on drumming and noise-making had already been completed.
However, he revealed that the final traditional rite known as the ‘Odadaa’ will be performed by the Gbese Mantse Nii Ayi Bonte II at 4:30pm, to climax the end on the ban on noise making.
“Today [Thursday], we have the main ceremony that will be performed by the Gbese Mantse Nii Ayi Bonte II that is what we call the Odadaa. The Odadaa itself is a drum which comes out only once in a year, and Nii Gbese will beat the drum first and after beating the drum that will be around 4;30 and after that everybody can make the noise that they want to make”.
The Ga Traditional Council placed a ban on drumming and noise-making in the Greater Accra Region on Monday May 14 this year.
The ban forms part of activities to commemorate the annual Homowo Festival.
