A chief who allegedly defrauded a nurse under the pretence of assisting him to buy a car has been granted bail by the Juaso Circuit Court in the sum of GH¢ 15,000 with one surety.
Nana Kofi Assumaning Ababio, a sub chief of the Agogo traditional area, pleaded not guilty to defrauding by false pretence and will reappear before the court on June 27.
Police Detective Chief Inspector Birikorang Peasah, prosecuting, told the court presided over by Mr. Yusif Assibey that the accused was a sub-chief at Agogo and a medical practitioner.
He said the complainant, Felix Tutu Okyere, a nurse at Tepa Government Hospital got to know the accused through his friend.
Prosecution said the complainant who then became a good friend of the accused expressed interest in buying a car for his private use.
The accused told complainant that he had a customs officer friend who could assist him in purchasing a Toyota Corolla saloon car by auction.
He requested for an amount of GH¢ 14,500.00 which the complainant paid on August 7, 2017 after which he promised to deliver the vehicle in a week.
He, however, failed to honour the promise and several efforts by the complainant to retrieve his money since then have proved futile.
The complainant reported the case to the police.
