The Smart Eye Magazine, in collaboration with Keteke Ghana, has cut the sod for the construction of a four-unit classroom block for the Suhyen SDA Primary School in the North Juabeng Municipal Assembly.
The sod cutting event was graced by notable personalities in the community including the Member of Parliament for North Juabeng, Nana Adjei Boateng.
Also in attendance were the Municipal Chief Executive, Comfort Asante and the Municipal Director of Education Mr. B.K. Ofori.
Forty bags of cement were also donated to the chief as a sign of commitment to the project before construction officially starts.
This is part of a Corporate Social endeavour by the Smart Eye Magazine dubbed the “Citizen Build”.
The Citizen Build initiative by the Management of Smart Eye magazine, deals with identifying and supporting schools operating in challenging environments.
The initiative has received immense support from Keteke Ghana, a non-governmental humanitarian organization committed to supporting the deprived and needy in society.
The Managing Editor of Smart Eye, Mr. Ntem he said, “this is our little way of giving back to society especially the very students who patronize our magazines. We believe when we all bring our resource together we can achieve a lot and build our community for our general good.”
He added that he and his team chose Suhyen, particularly because unlike schools in the big cities, the Suhyen SDA Basic School had constantly been left to the mercy of the weather.
The school would have to close whenever dark clouds gathered, but the students were still expected to ably compete with their colleagues in other well-resourced institutions for admission into the various senior high schools.
Keteke Ghana, after the sod cutting event, donated over 5000 exercise books, clothes and other stationery to the people of Suhyen.
