An international consultancy firm, MMG Consortium Ltd has commended the government for implementing the one-district-one factory programme in the Northern Region.
A senior consultant, Dr. Iddrisu Abdul- Majeed believes its successful implementation will promote agribusiness in the area.
He praised the Ministers for Business Development, Ibrahim Awal Mohammed, and Trade and Industry, Alan Kyeremanten for their collective effort in fast-tracking the governing New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2016 campaign promise.
“I commend the Trade and Industry Minister, Alan Kyerematen and the 1D1F Secretariat for spending quality time on comprehensive planning before implementing the programme across the country.”
“Despite pressure from critics about the slow pace in implementing the programme, the Minister and the 1D1F secretariat remained resolute to ensure that the fundamentals are right before implementing the programme.”
“This is on the back of the fact that failing to plan can be likened to planning to fail,” Dr. Majeed posited.
He said the government should ensure completion of the projects on schedule to avoid budget overrun.
“The Minister and the stakeholders involved in the implementation of the 1D1F should ensure that each factory should be completed within its stipulated time. Unnecessary delays during the implementation stage could lead to budget overrun.”
“I give an example of a poorly managed project in Australia called Opera House Syndrome to demonstrate the importance of timely delivery of projects. The Opera House Syndrome construction was originally scheduled to be completed in 4 years, with a budget of Aus $ 7 million. It ended up taking 14 years to be completed and cost Aus $ 102 million. That is ten years late and an estimated 1457% over budget.”
Dr. Iddrisu Abdul-Majeed spoke to Citi News at the end of a three-day capacity building workshop for employees of Mybank Financial Services in Tamale.
According to him, the workshop sought to improve the employee’s efficiency.
He lauded the Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Plan (NEIP), John Kumah’s idea of organizing a series of training workshops for startup entrepreneurs across the country ahead of the disbursement.
“I believe this will ensure efficiency in managing the funds by the beneficiaries and thus increase productivity.”
