A Tarkwa born, but US-based Ghanaian who has made it to the US Army, Dennis Duku, has donated items worth thousands of US dollars to his primary Alma mater, the Dadwen School Complex at Tarkwa in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality of the Western Region.
Dennis who is a translation specialist with the US Army put smiles on hundreds of children in the school when he supplied many back packs and crayons to the children.
“I am also pledging a hundred bags of cement for the rehabilitation of the broken washrooms for the children which has been out of use for a long time. This is my little token towards giving back to the school which has made me who I am today”.
Dennis Duku started his primary education at the Dadwen School complex where he completed his Junior High School in June 2003.
He proceeded to the Fiaseman Senior High School also in Tarkwa before furthering his academic exploits at the Central University in Accra.
Before he could complete, he was encouraged to continue at the Minnesota University in the United States of America. His application to the US Army received a positive response and he presently serves as a translation specialist.
The donation, according to him, is motivated by his conviction that giving back to society is one sure way of bridging the gap between the well-to-do in society and the poor.
Knowing the educational challenges in his primary school roots at Dadwen, Dennis mobilized some back packs numbering 400 and crayons to children at the basic school level.
Apart from the donation, Duku also spent time sharing his life story with the Junior High school students of his Alma Mater.
He told them “it’s not about how much your parents have, but about determination to achieve greater heights for yourselves”.
“I encourage you to stay focused, be determined and take what you are studying seriously. It is what you are learning today that will help shape your life tomorrow. Take a lesson from my transition and do whatever you can for yourselves because, God will also bless your efforts”.
It was also all joy when Duku reunited with food vendors from whose kitchen he had eaten many years ago
The Municipal Chief Executive for the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality, Gilbert Ken Asmah who assured Dennis and his team when they paid a courtesy call on him before the donation, that he would do everything within his power to fix the deplorable roads leading to the school and other major roads to ease the life of the people.
He however pleaded on behalf of the Dadwen School Complex that the school be supplied with computers to aid the children in their Information Communication Technology [ICT] studies.
He remarked that “It is regrettable that a school which has produced persons of the likes of Dennis lacks basic Information Technology devices such as computers to help these determined children end abstract lessons on examinable subjects like the ICT. We are pleading with corporate bodies and other philanthropist that whilst we are doing our best to fix the bad roads in these areas, they should also help us with computers to help our children”.
Dennis was accompanied by Major Thomas, Lieutenant colonel Stone, Specialist Kropp, Specialist Chesast, Staff Sergeant Stefan, Sergeant Gregar and Sergeant Moore who are all in the country on an official trip.
