The English transfer window closed on Thursday, August 9 at 5pm.
As ever, it was an eventful day, with numerous Premier League clubs doing late business.
Here’s all you need to know about what happened on deadline day…
EVERTON AND FULHAM GO CRAZY
Everton and Fulham were the two busiest clubs. The Toffees brought in THREE new players in the final half an hour of the deadline, landing Andre Gomes and Yerry Mina from Barcelona. Midfielder Gomes signed on a season-long loan while defender Mina joined on a permanent basis for a fee of around £28million. Brazilian winger Bernard also signed for the Toffees on a free transfer.
Fulham were in incredible form, signing FIVE players. Goalkeeper Sergio Rico, defenders Joe Bryan and Timothy Fosu-Mensah (loan), midfielder Andre Franck Zambo Anguissa, as well as Atletico Madrid striker Luciano Vietto (loan) all arrived at Craven Cottage on the final day of the window.
TWO IN, ONE OUT AT CHELSEA
Chelsea sold Thibaut Courtois to Real Madrid for a fee of around £31m. As part of the deal, midfielder Mateo Kovacic moved to Stamford Bridge from the Spanish giants on a season-long loan. Kepa was also unveiled by Chelsea, with the goalkeeper having sealed his record-breaking £71m move from Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday night.
TOTTENHAM FAIL TO MAKE A SIGNING
Tottenham’s pursuit of Jack Grealish ended in failure as they ended the window as the only Premier League club not to make a signing this summer. Spurs made a £25m bid for Grealish but were told he was not for sale by Aston Villa. Their failure to bring anyone in is the first time a Premier League club has not made a signing in the 15 years of the summer transfer window.
INGS BECOMES A SAINT
It seemed really unlikely at one point but Liverpool striker Danny Ings managed to beat the clock to sign for Southampton on a season-long loan. The deal gives Ings the option to make that a permanent move next summer.
NO JOY FOR JOSE MOURINHO
Manchester United were linked with a late move for Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin, but a deal did not materialise. They also failed to lure Harry Maguire from Leicester City and ended the day without a signing, despite Jose Mourinho claiming last week he needed at least two more players.
MANCHESTER CITY SIGN STARLET
Manchester City landed young Australia midfielder Daniel Arzani from Melbourne City for an undisclosed fee. Arzani, 19, was the youngest player at the 2018 World Cup.
MAGPIES SWOOP ON SWANS
Newcastle signed Swansea City defender Federico Fernandez for a fee in excess of £6million. Magpies boss Rafa Benitez worked with the Argentina international when in charge of Napoli.
EAGLES LAND AYEW
Crystal Palace managed to do a bit of business of their own after capturing Swansea’s Jordan Ayew on a season-long loan. His brother Andre confirmed the news before Jordan’s new club did!
HAMMERS HIT ON ARSENAL
West Ham signed Spanish striker Lucas Perez from Arsenal for around £4m. He joins former Gunners teammate Jack Wilshere at the London Stadium and has penned a three-year deal.
WOLVES MAKE SIXTH SUMMER SIGNING
Wolves landed Belgium international midfielder Leander Dendoncker from Anderlecht. The 23-year-old, who played against England at the World Cup, signed for the club on loan, with the option to make the deal permanent next summer for £12million.
BLUEBIRDS GET TWO DEALS DONE
Cardiff City secured season-long loan deals for two midfielders – Real Betis’ Victor Camarasa and Bournemouth’s Harry Arter.
FOXES SNARE CROATIAN YOUNGSTER
Leicester City signed Croatia Under-21 defender Filip Benkovic for a fee of around £13m from Dinamo Zagreb.
TERRIERS TURN TO BELGIUM
Huddersfield brought in Montpellier’s Belgium Under-21 winger Isaac Mbenza on a season-long loan, with the option of making the move permanent at the end of the campaign.
SEAGULLS SWOOP
Brighton brought in defender Dan Burn from Wigan – and then immediately loaned him back to the Latics for the first half of the season. They also signed Swedish youngster Peter Gwargis and ex-Barcelona defender Martin Montoya.
