The Eastern Regional Minister Eric Kwakye Darfour has challenged students and staff of St. Peter’s Senior High School in Kwahu- Nkwatia to work tirelessly to defend the National Science and Maths Quiz trophy next year.
St. Peter’s put up a splendid performance in the 2018 edition of the national science and maths quiz to be crowned winners for the third time after previously winning the competition in 1998 and 2005.
After coming out victorious in a fiercely contested final between their opponents from Adisadel College and West Africa Senior High School, Mr. Darfour believes PERSCO has what it takes to defend the trophy they won this year in the 2019 edition.
The Member of Parliament of Nkawkaw, who has been following proceedings of the competition for quite some time now says he is confident about the chances of St. Peter’s Senior High School in the next edition.
Mr. Darfour who made this statement at his residence when he hosted a section of students and staff of St. Peter’s including the quiz winners at a special buffet after they presented the trophy to him, called on them to make the region proud again.
“There is no doubt that St. Peter’s Senior High School is the best school in the country. I know what am saying because my two sons, who are both old students of PERSCO have made me proud of what they have become.”
“This generation of students are very lucky because you have all the infrastructure, tutors and facilitation to go higher in education. You can all be great entrepreneurs in future if you set your mind to it. We want to create the conducive environment for every child in Ghana to be educated because the world is moving too fast and kids in Ghana cannot be left in the dark.”
The Minister also promised to support the school in their quest to win the competition next year.
“The regional coordinating council will do everything within its means to support the school in the next edition of the competition to be able to win again and make the Eastern Region proud like it did this year.”
Kissi Annoh Kwaku who represented the school in this year’s edition told Citi News the next contestants of the school must adopt a different strategy to defend the trophy.
“Next year’s competition will be very keen because all those schools who lost out are going to come back prepared with the mindset to overthrow St. Peter’s so the students who will represent us next year must a adopt a different set of strategies to overcome their opponents. They need a new set of books and other learning materials and change how we approached the competition and I believe they can defend it”.
