Patrons of domestic air transport are beginning to witness some downward reviews in airfares for some routes.
For now, it is unclear whether the competition in the industry is leading to the reviews or an effect of low demand.
Already, aviation authorities are hopeful new entrants will drive competition and eliminate the monopoly in the system.
Information available to Citi Business News indicates that airfares for some routes for Africa World Airlines dropped between Tuesday and Wednesday.
For instance one way trip from Accra to Takoradi which used to be 399 cedis, dropped to 295 cedis.
This means the fares went down by 104 cedis.
Also, one way trip from Kumasi to Accra dropped by the same margin.
Africa World Airlines is yet to comment on possible reasons for these reviews.
But checks for the same fares as at yesterday evening showed that the fares had been readjusted to 399 cedis, for Accra to Takoradi or Kumasi routes.
On the other hand, Passion Air’s fares stood at 250 cedis for one way trips for all its three flights yesterday.
A round trip also stood at 402 cedis.
The Ministry of Aviation is hopeful of bridging the gap to reduce monopoly and increase passenger throughput.
Official statistics show that domestic passengers rose to 483, 261 in 2017.
The figure is currently at 178,007.
