Give Nana Addo more time to ‘redeem himself’ – Bagbin

Even though President Akufo-Addo appears to be losing control over his appointees and the country, he should be given more time to redeem himself,  NDC flagbearer hopeful, Alban Bagbin has suggested.

The Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament and MP of Nadowli Kaleo told Host of Citi TV’s Face to Face, Godfred Akoto Boafo, that President Akufo-Addo had failed to deliver on his campaign promises, describing government’s flagship programme, Free Senior High School (SHS) as a disaster.

[contextly_sidebar id=”FOXq4ZM4F168XxFvjG2WDYXly5oSdhX8″]He was however quick to add that Nana Addo should be given more time to fulfill his promises to Ghanaians.

“In spite of the mistakes that his government is making and sometimes the surprises that he is giving to Ghanaians because they are not practicing what they preach, we should give him time,” he said.

Free SHS may collapse in the 3rd year

Alban Babgin also predicted that the government’s flagship social intervention program, Free Senior High School, will collapse by its third year.

According to him, the program, although laudable, will collapse if the government fails to take into consideration the suggestions of stakeholders on how to ensure its success.

“It is not Free Senior High School; it is the free first year, the second and third year is not free. In the second year [of the program] we will be able to judge…. By the time we get to the third year, we’ve collapsed. If they don’t do anything about it, three-year stream and this government will be on its knees.”

Irresistible campaign message

Alban Bagbin also believes he will beat his opponents in the NDC’s presidential primary race because he has the best message for delegates.

“Democracy is about plurality so we should allow many more people to contest because competition brings out the best. Definitely, when you compete, there is always a clash of ideas, and there is always friction and therefore conflict, but our maturity should determine how we handle those conflicts and I do not think there should be fallouts. I think we should all go and contest. I am sure of leading… The message I have is a message you cannot resist.”

His comment is in response to reports that some 94 National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament, out of the 106, have endorsed former President John Dramani Mahama to lead the party in the 2020 elections.
