A mining firm operating in the Western Region, C & G Aleksa Company Limited, has sued outspoken Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong for defamation.

The firm is demanding a GHc20 million compensation from Mr. Agyapong for allegedly making defamatory comments about the company.

C & G Aleksa in its writ sighted by citinewsroom.com stated that Mr. Agyapong on his Net 2 TV, on July 24, 2018 “published various pictures of a land destroyed by mining activities claiming to be the mining concessions of C & G Aleksa.”

“Kennedy Agyapong also spoke and published to the hearing of all viewers the following words, whilst making reference to the pictures being shown to the viewers, which are defamatory to the plaintiff: The way they have destroyed/degraded the land…to destroy our lands like this and we have journalists defending them. The way the mining is carried out in Canada and Russia, let them do it for us to see. If this is how mining is carried out in their country, they should inform us,” the firm added in its writ.

The mining firm in its writ further argued that the pictures shown on the TV as well as comments Agyapong allegedly made have “gravely injured” its reputation and business.

C & G Aleksa further appealed to the court to order Mr. Agyapong to pay it “general damages of GHc20 million for slander spoken and published by the defendant.”

The firm is also seeking an injunction to prevent Mr. Agyapong “from further publishing or causing to be published the defamatory words complained of.”

It is also demanding an apology from Kennedy Agyapong.

Anas sues Kennedy Agyapong

Kennedy Agyapong is already facing a defamation case filed against him by investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

Anas is demanding GH¢25 million in damages from the vociferous Member of Parliament who reportedly launched a fierce campaign against Anas’ work and his person after the Number 12 exposé.
