Ekumfi MP ‘chased away’ by angry youth over ‘failed promises’

Some angry youth at Ekumfi Ayisam in the Central Region, have been captured in a video where they accosted their Member of Parliament, Francis Kingsley Ato Cudjoe over supposed unfulfilled campaign promises.

According to the youth, the Ekumfi MP has neglected them, and has not fulfilled a single promise he made during the campaign period.

The MP was at Eyisam for the annual Akwambo Festival when the incident happened.

In the video, some of his constituents were heard warning police officers against disrupting their attempted attack on him.

Some of the angry youth said they were National Democratic Congress supporters, but voted for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) because of his promises to create jobs, among others.

Though John Mahama secured the majority of the votes in the area on the NDC presidential ballot, the NDC MP aspirant, Abeiku Crenstil lost to Mr. Ato Cudjoe.

Ekumfi is a stronghold of the NDC, and so the parliamentary victory in 2016 was the first ever for the NPP.

But some residents of Ekumfi Ayisam say they have regretted voting ‘skirt and blouse.’

“He can see we are not NPP people but we voted for him… we are all from our parties. He has disappointed us big time,” one of the men said.

Another lamented what the people described as the MP’s neglect. He said the people have vowed to vote him out in 2020.

“The MP hasn’t helped. The MP, since he won, he has come here once. But today he has come and he’s spewing nonsense. We don’t like him anymore. All that is left is that we will vote him out.”
