Anas Exposé: 61 referees banned by Referees Association after investigations

The Referees Association of Ghana has handed out bans to 61 referees captured in the Anas Aremeyaw Anas exposé released in June.

After the airing of the documentary, a 5-member committee was set up to look into the conduct of the 75 referees mentioned.

After their work, they recommended certain punishments and the recommendations have been implemented by the association.

61 referees were found guilty per committee’s work and they were punished as follows: 53 were given 10-year bans and their identities were:

S. A. Quaye, Joseph Wellington, Daniel Dogbetor, Eric Nantierre, Cecil Fleischer, Dawood Ouedraogo, Salifu Malik,Theresa Akongyam, Prosper Adii, Issaka Ayensu Afful, Nathan Anafo, Badiu Ibrahim, Mclord Arhin, Otis Oppong, Salifu Rahman, Samuel Opoku Boateng, Yaw Ametepey, Justice Adu Poku, Kennedy Bentil, Leanier Addy, Nii Kotey Kotei, Philip Darku, Prince Amoah, Richlove Awuah, S. B. Bortey, Samuel Asiedu, Samuel Borquaye, Samuel Kyeremeh, Saviour Amevor, Sylvester Adzoku, Timothy Obuobisa, Uriah Glah, William Agbovi, Dickson Wellington, Emmanuel Ansah, Eugenia Asigri, Haruna Bawa, Abraham Opoku, Alhassan Badiu, Ebenezer Ofori Addo, Amofa Sarkodie, Ashitey Armah, Ashong Ibrahim, Atsu Dogbey, Augustine Akugri, Awal Mohammed, Ben Samari, Ben Vormawor, Daniel Diawuo, David Adjin, Hayford Adehe, Jason Nunoo, Joseph Say

8 referees were given life time bans and they were:

David Laryea, Reginald Lathbridge, Safo Adade, Samuel Sukah, Dally Gagba, Furella Bamie, Charles Dowuona, Umar Teni. 

14 referees were exonerated completely and the association released their names:

Esther Awo Detse, Prince Coffie, Wiseman Ghansah, Joseph Laryea, Edward B. Quaye, Solomon Mordey, Joseph Ayambila, Freeman Awulo, Charles Ablor, Eku Boateng, Latif Adaari, Yakubu Nuhu Limann, Alhassan Yahaya, Emurana Salifu. 

The statement added that the following who were initially punished by CAF would serve the old bans and the new ones concurrently:

David Laryea, Reginald Lathbridge, Joseph Wellington, Eric Nantierre, Cecil Fleischer, Dawood Ouedaogo, Salifu Malik, Theresa Akongyam. 

The association stated that any referee who would want to appeal the decision could do so within 14 days.
