The National Teaching Council says the results of the just ended controversial teacher licensure examination would be released by mid-October.
This was contained in a press statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Education, Ekow Vincent Assafuah.
According to the Council, a total number of 28,766 sat for the examination consisting of candidates with diploma, first degree, master’s degree and post graduate certificates.
A further breakdown revealed that a total of 24,687 diploma students, 3,885 first degree students, 7 master’s degree and 187 with post-graduate diploma in Education (PGDE) took part in the exam.
The National Teaching Council admitted that the examinations was however fraught with some challenges such as the delay in the commencement of the examinations and “rumours of the leakages of examination questions”.
The statement also called on prospective candidates for the next examination which would be held in January to wait for the announcement for registration timelines.
The NTC says they are committed to ensuring that future examinations are conducted in the most professional manner in line with international best practices.
“The National teaching council is committed to conducting the licensure examinations in the most professional manner possible, to ensure that teachers in this country are brought in line with international best practices” the statement read.
Background
Despite the fierce opposition the teacher licensure exam received, the NTC went ahead with the examination in colleges of education in the country.
The examination, began on Monday 10th of September to 12th September 2018.
Some of the papers written include essential professional skills, literacy and numeracy skills.
The National Teaching Council explained that the reason behind the teacher licensure examination was to improve the state of teaching in the country as well as to improve the quality of teachers in the country.
