Some youth of Abura Dunkwa in the Abura Asebu Kwamankese District of the Central Region, are fuming with rage over the killing of a 49-year-old Ghanaian private Security Guard, by persons suspected to be of Malian descent, locally referred to as ‘Zamerama’.

The youth woke up on Saturday morning to news of the death of Benjamin Ato Acquah, a private security guard with the Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB), Abura Dunkwa Branch.

In retaliation, they burnt down buildings and other assets belonging to the alleged suspects.

Rev. Edwin Kojo Sakyi, a resident of Abura Dunkwa, said the deceased, Benjamin Ato Acquah, had told his wife that he had had a confrontation with some ‘Zameramas’ in the area, who had threatened to deal with him.

Rev. Edwin Kojo Sakyi added that, at about 7:30 pm, the late Benjamin Acquah, who doubles as a linguist, entered into the compound of the ‘Zameramas’, armed with a machete and threatened to fight them.

The men, as a result, fought him back, and in the process hit him with a club resulting in his death.

They subsequently reported the incident to the Abura Dunkwa Police, he added.

Indications from police are that no visible marks found on the deceased, upon initial assessment.

The police in a bid to prevent a confrontation between the ‘Zameramas’ and the angry youth of Abura Dunkwa, quickly rushed to the premises of the ‘Zameramas’ and took the body away, before restoring calm to the area.

The ‘Zameramas’ in the area have since fled for fear of being lynched by the angry youth.

Linguist and wife beheaded at Abura Dunkwa

About three weeks ago, a linguist and his wife were brutally murdered, and till now, the police have not been able to apprehend any suspect.

It is for this reason the youth supposedly took the law into their own hands, burning down houses and properties, according to an eyewitness.

For now, the Abura Dunkwa Police headed by Jonathan K. Banini, have put measures in place to ensure the situation does not escalate.
