President Nana Akufo Addo has reaffirmed his commitment to improve the infrastructure challenges as well as  the living conditions of Ghanaians through various trade agreements with countries like China.

According to the President, government must also put in place innovative measures to educate and train Ghanaians since the traditional ways of going about it, has not provided the needed results in the past.

Speaking at the 73rd United Nations General Assembly, President Nana Akufo-Addo said there is a need by his government to tackle the infrastructural deficit in the country in order to train and educate Ghanaians.

“We must get our population educated and trained, and we are ceratin about it. We must address our infrastructural deficit. The traditional methods of tackling this problem will not provide the answer. We are looking for new ways to resolve it”

“Ghana like many countries in Africa, is forging relations with China to make arrangements to help address our infrastructure deficit” the President said.

China relations necessary; but we must learn from history – Nana Addo

President Nana Akufo-Addo however urged Africa to learn from China’s past woes with the “Western Railways imperialism” as it enters into necessary development deals with the East Asian nation.

He said “it is obvious to us that the development trajectory we had been on for many decades is not working.”

“Today, the former victim of Western Railways imperialism is lending billions to countries throughout Asia, Africa and Europe to construct not only railroads, but also highways, ports, power plants and other infrastructure, and many businesses. The historical echoes are certainly worrisome, but, yes, surely, we must and can learn from history.”

‘Partner with Ghanaian companies’ –Nana Addo urges Chinese investors

President Nana Akufo-Addo earlier this month during his state visit to China, urged the Chinese business community to take advantage of the enhanced business-friendly climate in the country to invest in Ghana.

Speaking at the Ghana-China Investment Forum, on Wednesday, 5th September 2018, in Shangdong Province, President Akufo-Addo said: “Our flagship agricultural programme, “Planting for Food and Jobs,” our renewable energy sector and ICT growth are all areas of considerable opportunity. These are all sectors you can profitably partner with Ghanaian companies, some of whose representatives have come all the way from Ghana to be here with me.

It is logical to do business with China – Oppong Nkrumah

Minister for Information Designate, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has defended the government’s decision to partner with China to exploit natural resources for national development during the recently held second edition of the Citi Business Forum themed “After China What Next”?,

According to him, the current global environment makes China one of the best partners to work with for economic gains.

President Akufo Addo during a recent visit to China announced some deals signed between Ghana and China, including a two billion dollar bauxite barter deal to mine the commodity in Ghana.

“They [China] are also looking at your resources that are sitting here literally untapped, undeveloped while you are sitting down  poor. You can do business with the Chinese,” he argued.

Mr. Oppong Nkrumah explained that the most crucial thing is for Ghana to negotiate appropriately with China to secure a better deal for the country, which the government is currently doing.
