The Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central Joseph Kofi Adda has promised that the Vunaania-Naaga road which is critical for the transportation of foodstuff to the Navrongo township will be considered for construction under the Akufo Addo government.
Residents of Kologo and Naaga are often cut off from Navrongo township during heavy rainfall due to the low height of the culverts and muddy nature of the road.
The resultant flooding makes the road unmotorable causing danger to lives and properties.
Former Assembly member for Kologo-Zuo electoral area, Amiriba Uthant lamented the state of the unmotorable Kologo-Naaga road, saying it endangers lives and properties particularly during torrential rains.
“Our main concern is the Kologo-Naaga road. When it rains we cannot go to Navrongo market because the road is unmotorable. Besides that, teachers from Navrongo who teach at Kologo and Naaga cannot also perform their duties when it rains.
It also affects healthcare because when it rains heavily and parts of the road are flooded we cannot send sick patients referred to the Wa Memorial hospital to access healthcare. So we are appealing to the government to come to our aid and construct the road for us”.
But Mr. Kofi Adda on an assessment visit to Kologo-Naaga area following torrential rains said the construction of the road was listed in the 2008 budget and abandoned by the NDC government.
He assured residents that the Akufo Addo government would prioritize the road.
“The Kologo-Naaga road has been a concern to the Navrongo municipal assembly and governments over the years. In 2008 the NPP government was prepared to construct the Kologo-Naaga road. We budgeted for the construction of the road but lost power to the NDC, and since then, the road has been abandoned.
“I have discussed the road with the Vice President, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, and he has assured me of getting a Government of Ghana facility for the construction of the road. So let’s pray that we get the facility next year for the construction.”
Mr. Adda also said that more culverts will be constructed to minimize the floods when there are torrential rains until the road is constructed.
