Waste management giant, Zoomlion Ghana Limited, has donated 500 refuse trucks for use by Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies in the country.
The trucks are aimed at boosting the role of MMDAs in tackling sanitation issues.
“The current fleet is made of 500 new skip trucks with the requisite number of containers for efficient and effective operations in the country,” chairman of the JOSPONG Group, Joseph Siaw Agyapong said.
“We see our contribution as an essential aspect of our role as private sector players. I would like to emphasize that with the continuous support of government, Zoomlion can deal effectively with the waste management situation in the country,” he added at a handing over ceremony held at Black Star square on Friday.
The ceremony was attended by Greater Accra Regional Minister, Ishmael Ashitey, Local Government Minister, Hajia Alima Mahama and her deputy, O.B Amoah.
The company in 2016 distributed 400 waste trucks and 5,000 motorized tricycles to the MMDAs.
“We see our contribution of an essential aspect of our role as private sector players. We shall continue to support the policies, plans programmes and projects on waste management, and work hand in hand with the Ministries of Local Government and Rural development, Health, Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, and the Ministry of Sanitation as well as the universities and other government agencies,” Mr. Siaw added.
