Webster University Ghana has inaugurated a new Success Center for students.

Coordinator of the Success Center, Professor Angela Baxter, an adjunct professor at Webster University Ghana, described the Success Center as an extension of the classroom.

The Success Center would support students in every aspect of their academic development.  “We have learning strategies on how to be successful in the classroom, we also provide assistance in writing, resume development, and interviewing skills,” she said.

Professor Baxter added that the Success Center is open to undergraduate and graduate students who might be in need of academic assistance. “We welcome our entire student body because there are so many areas of support we can offer students, and we would like to see our students take advantage of these opportunities,” she added.

Webster University Ghana’s Campus Director Christa Sanders described the inauguration of the Success Center as an important development in promoting academic excellence among students at Webster University Ghana.

She urged the student body to take advantage of the unique resources available at the Success Centre. “Even if you are already excelling as a student, you can still benefit from learning new tips, strategies for writing, reading, communicating, and time management at the Success Center,” she said.

Coach of the Success Center, Dr Michael Boakye-Yiadom said the Success Center would provide a safe and supportive environment where all students would be empowered with the resources needed to succeed both academically and in the world of work.

Professor Baxter has devoted her career to assisting young adults’ transition at different stages of their Educational and Career Paths.

She holds a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Transition Counseling from Texas Tech University Health Science Center and has worked at the Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitation Services as a Transition Counselor.

She has also worked with Disability Rights Organizations advocating for school and workplace accommodations for individuals with learning disabilities.

Professor Baxter also worked as an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Student Development at Austin Community College, Austin Texas.

For his part, Adjunct Professor and Student Success Coach, Dr Michael Boakye-Yiadom had both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at the University of Cape Coast and a PhD in Higher Education and Student Affairs from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.

Dr. Boakye-Yiadom is currently an Adjunct Professor and Student Success Coach at Webster University Ghana as well as a Research Fellow at the Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (IEPA).

He also serves as College Improvement Advisor for the colleges of education in Ghana under the Government of Ghana / Transforming Teacher Education and Learning (T-TEL) Program

He describes himself as a student-centred educator passionate about student development and success.

He has led groups of higher education and student affairs professionals to create and sustain many local and international programs to enhance student success and promote global citizenship education.

Examples of these collaborative programs can be found at Webster University Ghana, University of Cape Coast, Ghana, University at Buffalo, University of Maryland, College Park, and Ohio University. Dr. Boakye-Yiadom believes that great leaders develop people. He is also an advocate of the “student first” philosophy in higher education.
