The Upper West Regional treasurer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Tanko Dauda Daniel, has criticized the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia over the decision to travel to the 2017 United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) meeting with a delegation of 16 people.
He said Bawumia’s action betrays the NPP’s stance against reckless spending by state officials, adding that he forsees a revolution in the country if such expenditure by government officials continued.
“I hope what I read about the delegation of the Vice President of Ghana and his wife is not true. Truth be told, if these things continue to happen under the government of the NPP, I can foresee a revolution in Ghana. The endorsement of Nana Addo and the NPP in the 2016 elections was an expression of a kind of last hope by the people.
For us to continue witnessing the kind of unreasonable and irrational expenditures by people in government makes nonsense of democracy. That is why it will get to a point where the people will revolt against the government because they have lost all their hopes in politicians,” he said.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who was an invited guest to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in 2017 travelled with a 16-member delegation when many other countries that attended had at most 5 delegates.
Some Ghanaians, including members of the main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are criticizing the Vice President and the government over the action, describing it as a waste of scarce national resource.
But Tanko, who is also a lecturer at the University for Development Studies(UDS) took to Facebook to caution the government desist from such practices because it risks being booted out of office.
“It will get to a point where the people will revolt against the government because they have lost all their hopes in politicians. The NPP government under the leadership of Nana Addo is undoubtly the last hope of the Ghanaian people because in the words of Gabby the alternative is scary. Nana must not fail the people. The NPP should not do wrongs and defend them because they happened during a certain administration. It simply does not make sense,” he said.
