Tamale School of Hygiene in deplorable state – Principal

The Principal of Tamale School of Hygiene has bemoaned the institution’s deplorable state which he says requires government’s immediate attention.

According to Bello Seiwu, the school has never witnessed any major facelift since its establishment as Northern Ghana’s premier hygiene school.

He was addressing the school’s Alumni reunion program dubbed, “Proactive Alumni, key to the development of Alma Mater.”

He reechoed the need for the Alumni to support their alma mater.

“I am tasking you the interim Executives of the Alumni association to mobilize resources for the redevelopment and expansion of existing infrastructure of the school.”

“The school since its establishment has produced many environmental officers for district assemblies and other state institutions, however, I am not too happy that former students have not organized themselves over the years to support the school which trained them and gave them a career.”

“I am therefore appealing to all former students to return home to see what they could contribute to the development of the school.”

He emphasized that “As you can see, the school is not fenced, buildings are falling apart, lack of tutors offices and many challenges and we cannot achieve all these without the support of the Alumni.”

“Your Alma mater is, therefore, looking forward to you as you gather here today to brainstorm and come out with innovative ways to develop it as it continues to train your sons and daughters, brothers and sisters to go out and impact lives with communities they engage with as well as globally.”

The Alumni reunion program was climaxed with the election of six interim executives mandated to mobilize resources for the refurbishment and expansion of the school’s infrastructure.

The interim President, Issifu Tahidu Nasona, a tutor of the school in a Citi News interview said the Alumni’s main focus is to organize a homecoming summit.

The summit, he anticipated would bring together concerned former students to brainstorm and find solutions to the school’s myriad problems.

” I am appealing to all former students to reconnect and share their details with my office for a register that will soon be opened for them to register towards the homecoming summit.”

Currently, with 270 student population, the Tamale School of Hygiene can boast of only a two-storey building hostel.

The hostel facility can best be described as a death-trap which requires urgent rehabilitation.

With cracked walls and leaky roofing, the school’s dining hall has been converted into an auditorium.

The school lacks a befitting laboratory that is mandatory for all students pursuing certificate and diploma programmes.

The school’s 25 seater Toyota coaster bus and a double cabin pickup are also grounded thereby making it impossible for students to go for outreach programmes.
