The Nanumba South Health Directorate in Wulensi in the Nanumba South District of the Northern Region has received medical equipment from the Member of Parliament for the area, Thomas Donkor Ogaaja.
The equipment is to help in the delivery of quality health service in the district.
The items include a hundred vial of Anti Snake Vernon (ASV), ten hospital beds, two B/P apparatus, four Infant weighing scales, and three thermometer guns.
The donation, according to the MP, is a fulfillment of his campaign promise to the residents.
“It is a fulfillment of my campaign promise that I was going to procure the Anti Snake Vernon to assist the people because it is very expensive and snake bite is very common in the district. So I want the ASV to be available in every health facility in the district so that when anybody is bitten by a snake, they can go there and get treatment free of charge,’’ the MP said.
Presenting the equipment on behalf of the MP, the District Chief Executive for Nanumba South District, Natogmah Ibrahim Munkaila, charged the Nanumba South District Health Directorate to ensure that the items are used to enhance quality health delivery in the district.
“It is my hope that this equipment will go a long way to enhance quality health delivery in the district, and I want to urge you to make good use of the equipment’.”
He also appealed to the director to work hard to improve on the working relationship with the people in the district as there is a negative perception about the directorate.
On her part, the District Director of Health for Nanumba South, Madam Victoria Teni Aboyella, who received the equipment, expressed gratitude to the MP for the donation.
“We are much grateful to the MP for this donation. The items could not have come at a better time than now especially the ASV. We were actually in a dire need, and we are going to make sure that the people benefit from it. What we have from the regional medical store is inadequate, and I appreciate the MP for this kind gesture, and we pray that he will support us in many ways to get much more equipment like vehicles and motorbikes to assist in our outreach services to ensure quality healthcare delivery in the district.’’
The ten hospital beds are specifically for Lungni health centre where women in labour and other patients are treated on the bare floor.
The midwives at the facility, Alidu Alimatu Sadia, told Citi News that there is no privacy at the labour ward as people frequently peep through the windows during deliveries.
“Our main challenge here is that our building needs serious renovation, here at the labour ward there is no privacy. Our louvres are broken, and sometimes during deliveries, people are peeping through the windows, and we have to use our clothes to cover the windows. We are appealing to the government and other philanthropists and the MP to come to our aid to renovate the building.’’
