The number of students who have developed interest in pursuing science related courses at the Takoradi Technical University has reached a record high in the 2018/2019 academic year.

Of the 4,190 students, made up of 2743 males and 1396 females, 1,135 were students were admitted to engineering courses.

[contextly_sidebar id=”SzBJSczJclqQ5EiQUxpYiS2WeH6dID1E”]There were 840 students, made up of 428 males and 397 females who were also admitted to pursue programs in the applied sciences.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University Prof. John Eshun said the increase has been recorded in the oil and gas related programmes.

“Now we are having a lot of students offering electrical engineering and related programs. Again, the university status that came with the introduction of new four year programmes are some of the other reasons for this record high admissions,” he added.

There are 683 students who were admitted to pursue programs in Built & Natural Environment made up of 179 males and 7 females.

Apart from that, there were 1,346 students who were admitted to offer Business Studies.

The general increase in the enrollment calls for improved infrastructure to provide the best of tuition for these students.

Prof Eshun indicated that “ the University has no choice but to see to it that the infrastructure required are provided. It becomes even more important to look at infrastructure because we anticipate that the admission numbers will even increase the more because of market-driven courses we plan to introduce. We are still in the transitional period so we are checking all other issues including staffing and other logistics”.

The Takoradi Technical University has a total student’s population hovering around 10,000.
