The Obenyah Foundation has donated to schools learning materials to needy students in Klagon and old Ningo in the Greater Accra Region.
Officers and volunteers of the foundation presented the materials to 126 needy students in public schools at Klagon and Old Ningo.
The items donated to students included school bags, exercise books, notes books, graph books, mathematical sets, rulers, pens, pencils, sharpeners, erasers and many others.
Beneficiary students, their parents and school authorities expressed their profound gratitude to the foundation and its sponsors for the kind gesture.
Mr. Owusu Frederick, the Headteacher of Klagon Basic school said “it’s common to see some children go through the entire academic year with just one or two exercise books, and so I believe that this support will go a very long way to motivate children to do better and will also relieve their parents of the financial burden of buying these items themselves”.
The Obenyah Foundation also organised a sensitisation workshop for parents and guardians in the selected schools where students have been supported.
The workshop addressed issues of parenting and communal support for teaching and learning in public schools. Two successful workshops were organised in Klagon and Old Ningo, and a total of 74 parents and guardians participated in the workshops at the two venues.
Mr. Robert Obenyah, the Executive Director of the foundation explained that the donation of the items aligns with the foundation’s core focus on supporting education, especially in the most deprived communities.
