The General Manager of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in the Western Region, Mr. Anokye Abebreseh, has handed over the site for construction works to begin on its Agona Nkwanta District office.
The handing over was done together with Mr. Edmond Botwie (Manager, Construction – ECG), and Alhaji Ibrahim Yakubu, Regional Engineer -Western Region, at a short ceremony on Thursday in Agona Nkwanta.
The existing structure, which will be modified into a two-story office and customer service building to meet the growing needs of ECG’s customers in the District and surrounding communities, will be constructed by Answad Investments Company Limited, a Ghanaian owned Construction firm.
Mr. Abebreseh expressed confidence in the Contractor’s ability to deliver a good job.
“I have seen what you have done for us (ECG) in recent times, and we know you are going to do a great job here”.
Mr. Kwame Wadie, Chairman of Answad Investments, in his remarks reassured the team from the Electricity Company of Ghana of a final work that will meet the expectations of every stakeholder involved.
“We have a proven track record and we will live up to it once more,” he said.
Alhaji Ibrahim Yakubu, Western Regional Engineer of ECG, also asked the Contractor to take into consideration the presence of customers on the premises during the period, since the District office will still be operating alongside the construction works.
“I urge you to encourage your workers to be of good behaviour and be polite to customers who visit the premises whilst you go about your work on site”.
The ECG team also inspected ongoing works at its new Sekondi District office complex which is near completion.
“We are hopeful that this customer friendly edifice will be completed and handed over to us by the end of this year. We are committed to improve on our service delivery and make them easily accessible to our customers in the Sekondi District. We will keep doing all we can to bring excellence to the doorsteps of our customers”.
The Sekondi office complex according to Messrs Mahu-Akyi, the contractors of the project, will be completed and handed over to ECG by the end of 2018, if all things go as planned.
The ECG team was made up of personnel from the beneficiary districts and the Projects Directorate of ECG.
The Agona Nkwanta District ECG office, which started operations in July 2018, was carved out of the Takoradi District branch of the Electricity Company of Ghana, to meet the increasing power supply needs of some of its key industrial customers as well as domestic customers in the Agona Nkwanta and Mpohor Wassa areas.
The district currently boasts of a customer population of about 26,000.
