The Society of St. Vincent De Paul Osu Deanery Council, a group within the Catholic Church in Accra, has donated assorted items to a charity home, known as City of God, located at Old Fadama in Accra.
The group also presented a cheque of GHc16, 000 to the Head of Missionary at the home, Rev. Fr Subash Chittilappilly.
City of God is a charity home that provides care, educational and economic support to squatters at Old Fadama and neighbouring communities.
The donation by the group forms part of the Catholic Church’s 125th anniversary celebration.
Presenting the items and cash amount to the home, Rev. Fr David Amissah said the gesture forms part of the church’s anniversary, and is also aimed at encouraging Fr. Subash and his team of volunteers to continue with their good deeds for the people of Old Fadama, a deprived area in Accra.
“We are here on behalf of the Archdiocese. I believe that you are aware that for one year now the Archdiocese has been celebrating its 125th anniversary. As part of the Archdioceses’ charity work, we have selected the City of God as a place we need to visit. We are here purposely to do a donation on behalf of the Archbishop and the Archdiocese,” he added.
An elated Head of Missionary, Fr. Subash, was grateful for the gesture and urged other philanthropic institutions to emulate the Catholic Church.
The delegation was led by Fr. David Amissah and Francis Destiny Amenuvor.
