The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Dorma Central in the Brong Ahafo Region, Drissa Quattara, has indicated the assembly’s resolve to partner with the police and other security agencies in the district to combat crime in the area effectively.
He said the assembly was exploring other revenue channels to resource and support the security agencies to increase their patrols.
He, therefore called on residents to cooperate with them by reporting suspicious characters to the appropriate agencies.
There have been recent reports of armed robbery and illegal logging in the area which according to authorities is a major challenge affecting development and safety of the area.
He mentioned installations of streets lights, increased patrols and increased the visibility of community policing as measures implemented by the Municipal Security Committee (MUSEC) to check and combat crime in the area.
The MCE said these in an address to participants at a Town Hall Meeting at Dormaa by the Ministry of Information and the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development as a platform to afford residents the opportunity to demand accountability from duty bearers.
He further called on residents to support the assembly in its quest to develop the municipality by honoring their tax obligations.
“As a municipality, we don’t need to solely rely on central government support alone. I, therefore want to appeal to residents to help us mobilize enough revenue to undertake developmental projects”, he said.
Hon. Quattara disclosed that the assembly was executing infrastructure projects in education, health, water, and sanitation, and therefore appealed to residents to take advantage of the government’s policy interventions to improve their conditions.
He further appealed to the national secretariat of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) to assist the municipality with relief items to cater for victims of a rainstorm that affected 45 houses.
Mr. Imoro Ayibani, Regional Information Director, in his address, tasked participants to effectively participate in the programme and unite for the development of the area.
He appealed to the assembly and other stakeholders to collaborate with the Information Services Department (ISD) for their publicity needs.
